"Probably one of the most difficult maneuvers in flying isn't an actual maneuver: It's saying no when everyone wants you to say yes."
An accident is always an accumulation of bad decisions
Passengers trust the pilot with their lives, follow the rules to uphold that trust
REMEMBER THE ENGINE MIGHT NOT MAKE RATED POWER !!
-Don't overload an unknown airplane. Only load an unknown plane up to 75% of its rated capacity or less
-Don't plan on Vx distances on high altitude / hot days,
-Check the published takeoff distance and ABORT if it isn't met & enough runway is remaining
-BEWARE an overloaded aircraft MIGHT CLIMB while in ground effect then stop climbing !!!
-Engine looses 3.5% of power for every 1000ft of density altitude
Remember the hazardous attitudes A-M-I-I-R
Anti authority : follow the rules
Macho : don't be foolish
Invulnerability : it could happen to you
Impulsivity : slow down, breathe
Resignation : you can make a difference
PLAN >EACH< FLIGHT! PAVE CHECKLIST & NWKRAFT
-Go through foreflight briefing & weight and balance, it just takes a few minutes.
In an emergency don't hesitate to ask ATC for VECTORS and declare an emergency, ATC is here to help.
If ATC makes a suggestion, take it very seriously
-Always - follow - the - checklist
Critical memory items:
-Always sump fuel & check quantity
-Always check oil level.
-Always check pitot tube for blockage.
-Flight controls free and correct (This might be the most common and dangerous variable in GA ! )
-Always check mags & engine idle in runup
-Mixture rich & fuel selector before takeoff
-Check for landing gear down on downwind, check on base, check on final (even in planes without landing gear to form good habits)
Never reset fuses more than once ! you might create a fire.
Ziptie + log fuse upon landing for the next guy flying the plane
Emergency procedures
-Engine out after takeoff : SHALLOW TURNS at Vg
-Engine fire in flight : turn everything off & increase speed in the decent.
-Electrical fire in flight : turn everything off, use the halon extinguisher, then OPEN THE WINDOWS (Halon displaces oxygen!)
-Spacial Disorientation : If dizzy and confused, concentrate on the attitude indicator and level off the plane.
Don't try to fly around weather ! either in time or distance
Visible moisture = ice ! Freezing altitudes happen very quickly ! 2c / 1000feet
Never fly in the middle of canyons, always offset to either sides in order to give enough space to turn around, or simply fly above the canyons
ADSB: Outside of the mode C shelf planes might not have ADSB ! bring Stratux & use eyeballs to clear before each turn, specially in the traffic pattern
